Edip Hakkı Köseoğlu - "Car and Houses"
ON THE ART OF EDIP HAKKI KOSEOGLU...
Masterfully blending academic rigor with impressionist sensitivity, Edip Hakkı Köseoğlu was a student of İbrahim Çallı at the School of Fine Arts, continued his art education at the André Lhote studio in Paris, and also worked on decorative arts at the Paul Dumas studio.
Köseoğlu’s artistic style reflects a harmonious combination of structured composition and expressive brush strokes. He frequently includes scenes from Istanbul’s urban life in his paintings; he deals with subjects such as bullies, those bargaining at brothel doors, and mentally ill patients with a realistic observation. In addition, he successfully reflects the calm nature and rural life of Anatolia, especially with his famous buffalo compositions and serene landscapes.
Köseoğlu’s efforts to process everyday life with subtle humor and social commentary are striking in his works. Adopting a disciplined approach throughout his artistic career, Köseoğlu stands out with the importance he attaches to line and his elegant color palette. His masterful reflection of the essence of urban and rural life made him an important figure in the development of modern Turkish painting.
