Ahmet Özel (1960 - )
Ahmet Özel was born in Çanakkale in 1960. After graduating from Kabataş High School for Boys, he studied art at the Devrim Erbil Workshop at the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts (now Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University) between 1976-82. In 1987, with a scholarship granted by the Italian Government, he conducted research on art in Rome and Florence, and studied painting restoration and appraisal. In 1994, he was invited to exhibit his works at the Toyama/Japan Art Fair.
His paintings, based on the reconciliation of colors with planar effects in an abstractist compositional order, aim for pure harmony. Ahmet Özel's painting is a set of polysemous phenomena that signify human existence in the context of the cosmic universe. The artist reflects the adventure of creation of the universe and human beings, which he examines with an intuitive dialectic, with mystical strings of meaning in the dimension of a mythological discourse by abstracting from time and space. The artist lives and works in Istanbul.
