AYHAN TÜRKER (1938 -   )

Ayhan Türker was born in Çermik district of Diyarbakır in 1938. He studied primary and high school in Diyarbakır. He came to Istanbul to study painting and entered the Academy because of his love of painting, which started in primary school and was thoroughly determined by the close interest of his high school painting teacher Turan Erol. He studied at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Department of Architecture. The knowledge and skills acquired from Edip Hakkı Köseoğlu and his graphic department teacher Namık Bayık in watercolor lessons played an important role in Ayhan Türker's achievement of "virtuosity" in watercolor painting, in the words of Turan Erol. He opened his first personal exhibition at Beyoğlu Vakko Art Gallery in 1985, then held many personal exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions in Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir. Ayhan Türker continues to work in an impressionist line, using all kinds of materials, "parallel to nature" in Cezanne's words, without getting caught in fashion trends. According to art critics, he is the most important representative of the "Çallı" generation today. His interpretation of the Istanbul landscape with a true painting nobility has always distinguished him from similar ones. The artist has produced works not only in landscape and still life, but also in portrait works, especially in Atatürk portraits, with watercolor, oil and pastel materials. He continues his life and work in Istanbul.
