Hale Arpacıoğlu was born in İzmir in 1952 and studied art at the Portland Oregon College between 1969-1971. She continued her studies at the Italian Brera Academy and the Rome Fine Arts Academy until she came to Turkey in 1971. Her paintings display an expressionist aesthetic style with colorful large brush strokes. The artist, who is among the first representatives of new expressionism, has used bright colors such as red and green in her works between 1981-1990. Figures are depicted with pink and yellow shades and objects are schematically represented with big wide brush strokes. A new iconography appears in her works between 1990-2000 with black, green and red eggs, a cross, a cave and a teardrop looking like a sword. This images are the representation of deep nostalgic feelings and a questioning attitude in search of new discoveries and solutions. The artist lives and works in İstanbul and New York.
