KEMAL İSKENDER (1949 - )

Kemal İskender, born in Trabzon in 1949, graduated from the Neşet Günal Studio at the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts Academy (formerly the Istanbul State Fine Arts Academy). He was awarded a state scholarship to study stained glass and gravure at the London Central School of Art & Design and completed his master’s degree at the Royal College of Art between 1972-1977. Kemal Iskender belongs to the figuristic group of the Neşet Günal studio whose works are based on figure deformation. The artist reinterprets figures on his canvass with delicacy and mystery creating an endless reflection as if seen through mirrors facing each other to convey joint rhythm and energy to the viewers. Kemal İskender, an expert in Western History of Art, painting, stained glass and gravure, is currently teaching at the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts Academy: He works and lives in İstanbul.
