AHMET ORAN (1957 - )
Oran was born in Çanakkale in 1957. He studied in Adnan Çoker Studio in the Painting Department of Istanbul State Applied Fine Arts Academy (currently known as Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University). From 1980 to 1987, he attended Prof. Carl Unger’s Studio for painting, stained glass and graphics and Prof. A. Frahner’s Studio where he graduated from the Applied Fine Arts School of Vienna University. As a person who calls for the action of his body in order for ideas to be translated to objects, he analyzes the possibility of progressing within the scope of conventional knowledge (usually canvas paintings). His paintings create a sense of surrounding spatial volume. Former works created a sense of entrance into the depth of the painting as opposed to the current ones that are opening to the outside and surrounding the viewer. Ahmet Oran paints very cautiously, mindful of nuances and the subtlest vibrations. He knows about the importance of pressing the material, of small fissures and disturbances in the painting, yet emphasises the overall, dominant form and thus a concept of reconciling opposites opens up in his paintings towards the surface. Oran has also exhibited his work in various cities of Austria and Turkey since the 1980’s. His works are in contemporary museums such as; Kunsthalle Bonn, Istanbul Modern and Lentos Kunstmuseum. Oran lives in Vienna and Istanbul.
