MEHMET AKSOY (1939 - )
Aksoy was born in Hatay in 1939. He studied in Şadi Çalık Studio in the Sculpture Department of İstanbul Academy of Fine Arts (currently known as Mimar Sinan University Faculty of Fine Arts). He studied in London and Berlin upon being awarded a state scholarship between 1970-1977. He conducted sculpture studies in public places. His works were selected to the International Istanbul Biennial in 1989-1990 and 3rd Ankara Asia-Europe Biennial. His sculptures that are mostly carved out of marble have the monumental affect due to their size and mass. Sensitivity devoted to Anatolian culture and the style of expression are the basic elements that define his sculpture. The effort of carving the sculpture form upon the faith and philosophy basis takes attention as a rooted anxiety in him. He lives and works in Istanbul.
