Erol Akyavaş

EROL AKYAVAŞ (1932 - 1999)

He was born in Istanbul in 1932. He graduated from the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts, Department of Architecture. He organized solo exhibitions in cities such as New York, Bremen, Stuttgart, London, Berlin and Paris. One of his works entered the MOMA in 1960, and his paintings were featured in the Bremen and Stuttgart museums. While he was predisposed to surrealist technique, he created an original series of works that included architectural spaces and emphasized the concept of depth. In his new works, which he has created with inspiration from traditional calligraphy and miniatures, he evaluates such quotations in the context of the piece and the whole, and establishes the framework of the composition in the light of the guiding factors of his own understanding of art. He passed away in 1999 in America.
