KEZBAN ARCA BATIBEKİ (1956 - )
Batıbeki was born in Istanbul in 1956. She graduated from the Graphics Arts Department of Fine Arts Academy at Marmara University. After her graduation, she created posters for cinema and theatre, stage decors and animation film for children for TV, where she worked as production designer and photographer on this film. In 1983, she traveled to the UK, where she focused on her painting both in Oxford and London. Since 1984, she is one of the most important artists in Turkish Contemporary Art. Batıbeki featured in numerous group shows with both Turkish and international artists such as the Baku Biennial 2008 in Azerbaijan and Lukas Feichner Art Gallery in Vienna, Austria 2007. She also had sixteen solo exhibitions including On the Road at the Costume Design Museum in Tokyo, Japan (2004). Her acrylics on canvas paintings include global themes like human beings, sexuality, censorship, mystery, reflection, love and eroticism. Graphic elements’ visual dynamism transferred to her contemporary paintings is a common tendency in all her paintings. She currently lives and works in Istanbul.
