ABDULLAH ÇİZGEN (1911 – 1987)
Turkish Realist Painter Abdullah Çizgen was born in Istanbul in 1911.
The artist, who is one of the Turkmen of Konya, was interested in painting when he was in primary school. After completing his secondary education with the encouragement of painters Hasan Tahsin and Necmeddin Okyay, he entered Sanayi-i Nefise Mektebi-i Ali. He graduated from Feyhaman Duran's workshop in 1932.
Later, he was appointed to the Topkapı Palace Museum as a palace painter. The artist, who also received restoration training, took part in the repair of many paintings belonging to the palace collection.
The artist, who later worked in the Archeology Museum, participated in many exhibitions held at home and abroad with his works, as well as his personal exhibitions.
He was interested in modern movements, especially cubism, but the artist, who decided on realism, also took part in many art societies.
