Nazmi Çekli

Nazmi Çekli (1884 - 1968)

He was born in Izmir in 1884. He is one of the first representatives of our republican painting art living in İzmir. After graduating from the Manastır Harbiye, he worked as an art teacher in Serez High School. He fought on various fronts in the War of Independence. The personal painting exhibition he opened at the 1st Izmir Economics Congress was met with great admiration by Atatürk and was honored with a silver medal.

Nazmi Çekli is an artist known for his landscapes based on impressionist sensibility. Especially the habit of using dense layered paint and the importance it attaches to light shadow detection are remarkable. He died in 1958 in Istanbul.
