George Prior (from 1780 until 1830) and his son Edward Prior (taking over the business from 1830 on) were famous for the production of made in London multi-cased luxury watches in Ottoman market for the courtier and its sphere.

Sterling silver pocket watch with 4 interbedded cases and key operated spring mechanism, made by Edward Prior along with the hand-carved serial number 77798… The watch appears to be produced in the 1860’s according to its serial number. Mechanism pieces are untouched, still working. The outermost protective case is made from fully hand-carved sterling silver with a diameter of 64 mm. The 2nd case makes the watch face visible from the front and is covered with genuine tortoiseshell, the diamater is 54 mm. Underneath the tortoiseshell case there is once again a fully hand-carved sterling silver case with a diameter of 44 mm. The key operated spring mechanism and dial plate are to be found at the innermost layer, the plain sterling silver case.
