SUZAN BATU (1954 -   )

Batu was born in Istanbul in 1954. She graduated from the Translation Department of University of Graz, Austria. Her interest to painting directed her to California College of Arts and Crafts, where she graduated in 1981. The artist after living in California for a while moved to New York. She received her MA degree from Brooklyn College in 1990. She was the curator of many exhibitions in USA. In the works of artist, who was influenced by the minimalists like Barnett Newman, Ellsworth Kelly and then Roy Lichtenstein, Stuart Davis, there are reflections of pop art and op-art movements in her works. Her works, which are created with the impression from the tradition in Turkey and USA, fashion to art history, have the style from plain pattern to kitch. The artist, held many exhibitions both in Turkey and abroad, lives in New York and Istanbul.
