Hakan Kalay

HAKAN KALAY (1970 -   )

Kalay was born in 1970, in Istanbul. His first tutorial was from his father, painter, Necdet Kalay. He was 12 years old at his first group exhibition held at Bebek Art Gallery,  “Necdet Kalay and his students”. He continued with classes from Muzaffer Akyol for some time. Kalay actively participated in art history classes at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. He ended his professional life in 2006 and turned to his art completely.  He joined the Art Center of Academics under the management of artist, Resul Aytemür producing art. Kalay has a colorful, figurative sense of painting, and comes up with strong and strict light effect that sheds a very personal narrative that tells stories about “people in the metropolis”. He is very clasical in his painting, contemporary in the expression, creating a new sense of paintings. He still continues to work and lives in Istanbul.
