Arzu Akgün

Arzu Akgün (1970-   )

Arzu Akgün was born in 1970 in Istanbul. She graduated from Dokuz Eylül University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Painting Department. She completed her master's degree at the same university, Institute of Social Sciences, Painting Department. Akgün, especially on large-sized wooden panels, deals with the daily perspectives and private life contents in a practical way, and produces effective works that also carry a psycho-social criticism. The use of a special color palette by the artist, the combination of cold and warm colors creates contrast, which makes the picture more attractive. Her works have already taken their place in many local and international collections. In these works, the balanced combination of black and cold colors is presented in a contradictory unity with the feeling of warmth created by the wooden floor. The textural accents, which are brought to the wooden floor and sometimes evoke the discipline of printmaking, are turning into elements of a special language that is becoming increasingly clear. The artist, whose works are in many local and international collections, lives and works in İzmir.
