Güngör Taner (1941 - )
Taner was born in Istanbul in 1941. He graduated from Nurullah Berk Atelier of the Painting Department of Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts (currently known as Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University). In 1971, he studied at Corneille’s Atelier in Salzburg Summer Academy. In Turkish art, his works are considered as a continuation of the first abstract artists such as Sabri Berkel, Nejad Devrim, Zeki Faik İzer and their followers like Adnan Çoker, Burhan Doğançay. In his own words, his works are composed “by using various contrasts in a certain motion or in a rhythm on the road to harmony”. The combination of dynamic stain, color and line introduce an atmosphere of visual action into the space in Taner’s paintings. He lives and works in Istanbul.
