Ertuğrul Ateş

ERTUĞRUL ATEŞ (1954 -   )

Born in Adana in 1954, Ateş started his painting education in 1973. Halil Akdeniz, Mürşide İçmeli and İsmail Gümüş became their teachers. In 1977, he graduated from Ankara Gazi Education Institute, Department of Painting. Between 1977-1979, he worked at Kingsway Princeton College and Berhnal Green Institute in London. His first paintings were exhibited in Istanbul in 1980 and he started his professional art life with this exhibition. He moved to New York in 1987 with a sudden decision and opened his first solo exhibition in New York in 1988. He proved himself in this country in a very short time and continued his studies. His paintings, in which the elements of human and nature are embroidered with a flying ribbon motif in an imaginary space, are the products of a fantastic-realistic trend. He lives and works in Istanbul and New York.
