Eşref Üren

EŞREF ÜREN (1897-1984)

After attending Bursa Agricultural School, he studied at the Fine Arts Academy where he worked at İbrahim Çallı and Hikmet Onat Workshops. He attended the Ateliers of Andre Lhote and Othon Griesz in Paris for a while. On his return to his homeland, he worked as an art teacher in various cities.

He turned to painting with the influence of Çallı, whom he saw while painting the Yeşil Türbe in Bursa. In the early 1920s, he was enrolled in Sanayi-i Nefise as a private student. The first teacher he met there was Hikmet Onat. On the other hand, he took private lessons from Muazzez Bey and continued Duran's workshop. In 1928, he worked with A. Lhote in Paris, where he stayed for more than a year on his own means. Joined Group "D" (series 9 in 1943). He continued his Lhote and O. Friesz workshops in Paris, where he went for the second time in 1938. Two important Awards; 1964, 25th State Painting and Sculpture Exhibition, 1st Prize. Ankara Municipality Honor Award in 1980. Eşref Üren, in his artistic life, which he shaped with his own efforts, chose his own masters and strictly adhered to the rules of sincerity. He reflected Ankara's parks, gardens, streets, people, in a poetic nature that he added to the nature of this region, without deviating from any frostbite, as it came to the tip of his brush. He is in the "intimist" group of Turkish painting.

His paintings were included in the "D" group and Galatasaray exhibitions.
