Sami Lim (1905-1986)
He was born in 1905 in Istanbul. The grandson of the calligrapher and illuminator Hafız Ahmet Efendi from Tırnova, Lim completed his secondary education at Kocamustafapaşa Numune Secondary School. Between 1919-1923, he studied at the Painting Department of the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts, and at the Ateliers of Hikmet Onat and İbrahim Çallı. After working as a painter in the State Railways for 31 years, he retired and went to Kars in order to devote himself more to art.
The artist adhered to the impressionist technique in his paintings and turned to the nature of Istanbul. He worked for a long time under the Fine Arts Union and participated in many group exhibitions. The artist, who emphasized the "law of fixed proportions" used by Renaissance masters and argued that the fiction in the paintings should be created according to these values, passed away in Istanbul in 1986.
