Georg Macco

GEORG MACCO (1863 - 1933)

Born in Aachen, Germany in 1863, painter and illustrator Georg Macco wanted to pursue a career in arts like his great uncle, history and portrait painter Alexander Macco. Thus, he worked with Eugen Dücker and Peter Janssen at the Fine Arts Academy in Düsseldorf between 1880-1887. He also did illustrations for the books of Die Gartenlaube and his brother Hermann Friedrich Macco. He moved to Munich and made many inspiring trips, where he painted landscapes of the Alpine highlands, Norway and Spitsbergen and Italy. Macco, the pioneer of orientalism; He describes his travels to Athens, Constantinople, Baalbek, Jerusalem, Cairo and Mecca. Georg Macco's works are on display at the Kunstpalast Museum, the Suermondt-Ludwig Museum, the Rudolfinum and the Alpine Museum in Munich. Macco's paintings mainly consist of gouache and oil paintings, and sometimes watercolor paintings. His works are close to expressionism, a masterful display of colors and lighting effects, as well as a strong sense of detail. The artist died in 1933.
