Halil Akdeniz (1944 - )
Halil Akdeniz was born in Antalya in 1944. He received his undergraduate and specialist education at Ankara Gazi Education Institute, Department of Fine Arts Education and Berlin Academy of Fine Arts - HdK, Berlin (now Berlin University of Arts). He founded the Fine Arts Departments of Ege, Dokuz Eylül and Bilkent Universities. He served in various positions at these universities, from department head to faculty committee member, from university senates to university board members. He worked as a cultural advisor at the Turkish Embassies in Bonn and Berlin between 1996 and 2000, and as a consultant at the Ministry of Culture in 2001. He worked as a lecturer at Anadolu University Faculty of Fine Arts between 2001-2005.
The artist, who started with the series "Visual Treatments of Izmir Bay Pollution" in the 1978s and 1980s, has artistic analyzes based on scientific research on the problems of the physical environment in which he lives, Efes, Anatolian Civilizations - Anatolian Civilizations - in the series covering different cultural regions in the exhibition titled "Izmir - Visual Notes from the Ruins". Intercultural; Anatolian Civilizations – Cultural Environment; Anatolian Civilizations – Cultural Logos; and Anatolian Civilizations – Cultural Remains. The works produced during this process include contemporary interpretations and artistic solutions using both artistic and non-artistic elements and have taken part in many national and international exhibitions, biennials, triennials, art fairs and museum exhibitions. He received awards in many national and international competitions, including the First Prize of the 1st Bulgarian International Modern Art Festival – “process-space” gold medal. His works are located in various museums and collections at home and abroad.
Halil Akdeniz is also a member of the UNESCO-AIAP International Plastic Arts Association and served as the President of the Turkish National Committee and Ankara Representative for a while.
The artist currently works at Işık University Faculty of Fine Arts in Istanbul and lives in Istanbul.
