Ali Elmaci (1976 - )
Ali Elmacı was born in Sinop in 1976. He graduated from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Painting. Ali Elmacı, who has a discourse and criticism in every exhibition, paints the current history of social problems without avoiding satire and sarcasm, and conveys the aspects of family, society, state, media and sacred values that are not seen with the naked eye through his own fictions and characters. She criticizes the society through personal portraits with the 'confused' and 'smiling faces' in her works.
In recent years, the artist has added drawings, videos and sculptures to his portfolio, which mainly consists of paintings. At the same time, Elmacı's intensely colorful works, full of eye-catching and fantastical elements, caricaturize forms while presenting the viewer with a dramatic interpretation of social or personal situations. Presented in series in which, as the artist states, he 'paints the ugly', his works are loaded with the dramatic irony of today's world in every aspect.
The artist, whose works were exhibited at Art Dubai 2011 and Scope Basel 2012, continues to live and work in Istanbul. Today, Elmacı's works are exhibited internationally in important galleries and art fairs in countries such as Singapore, Australia, Austria and the United States.
