Çağdaş Erçelik

Çağdaş Erçelik (1983 - )

After graduating from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Department of Sculpture in 2005, he completed his master's degree in the same department and started his doctoral study. Participating in many group exhibitions and symposiums between 2003 and 2011, Erçelik won many awards, including the 2007 Kemal Türkler Monument Sculpture Competition Achievement Award and the 2007 HSBC Bank Sculpture Competition Achievement Award.

Çağdaş Erçelik's "Dersaadet" exhibition, consisting of sculptures and paintings inspired by the literary figures who lived in Dersaadet, another name for Istanbul, and their imaginary heroes, stories, novels and scenes in the novels, made a huge impact when it was held. At the exhibition, famous theater artist Ali Poyrazoğlu read sections from unforgettable works of Turkish literature such as İhsan Oktay Anar's Misty Continents Atlas, Peyami Safa's Mademoiselle Noreliya's Chair, and Sabahattin Ali's The Devil Within Us, which inspired Erçelik while creating his sculptures. Another important work of the artist, Sait Faik Abasıyanık sculpture, is located in Burgazada İskele Square.
