Orhan Ersoy (1928 - 2022)

Born in Akçakoca in 1928, Orhan Ersoy graduated from the Painting Department of the Academy of Fine Arts in 1957 and worked as a painting teacher at Bolu Teacher's School and Bolu High School. After ten years in this position, he was appointed as a painter and restoration specialist at the Istanbul Museum of Painting and Sculpture in 1968. He participated in various group exhibitions and State Painting and Sculpture Exhibitions.

In 1971, he gave paintings to the Contemporary Turkish Painting Exhibition in the United States of America. In the 37th State Painting and Sculpture Exhibition held in 1976, he received the success prize for his oil painting entitled Running, and in 1979 he received the success prize for a landscape painting in the Historical and Touristic Turkey Exhibition organized by Akbank.

Orhan Ersoy's art is primarily based on a deep observation of nature and a discipline of study and research that focuses on the synthesis of color and line. His early paintings of Bolu landscapes reflect an understanding stemming from impressionism, but are based on a personal interpretation of nature.

This attitude did not change much in his later paintings. Processing the environment he lived in with its color and texture with an unadulterated sensitivity, not going beyond the objects he observed, have always shown their effect as the main values he observed. The artist passed away in 2022.
