Meral Yıldız (1958 - )

Born in Istanbul in 1958, Yıldız began her art education in 2000 at Yeditepe University Faculty of Plastic Arts and completed her undergraduate education at the same university with honors in 2012. The artist, who continued her doctorate (art proficiency) studies at Yeditepe University, also worked as a lecturer at GEdik University.

According to art critic and curator Marcus Graf, "For Meral Yıldız, art is a spiritual journey; it transforms the consciousness in this artistic production process into a different phase. Then, it goes beyond the known to discover alternative dimensions of life and its reality. In this context, Meral likes Kandinsky's mystical concept of art and Gerhard Richter's approach to color and texture. During impulsive painting processes, she loses herself by losing her ego, which forms her personality."

Meral Yıldız produces her works with the idea of unity consciousness of Sufism. His works deal with themes such as love, unity, spirituality, emotion, mystery, depth, space, emptiness, the secret of dimension and colors, and self-discovery. The sentence "First there was nothingness, then the depth of nothingness." also reflects the themes in his works.
