FARUK CİMOK (1956 - )

Cimok was born in Hatay in 1956. He graduated from the Istanbul State Fine Arts Academy (now known as Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University) Devrim Erbil Workshop. He depicts the people of the rural part of Southern Anatolia, cotton workers, in crowded figure groups in his paintings. In a sense, he caricatures, a unique taste of hoarding and anxiety of typology predominate . The most crowded and touristic districts of Istanbul, such as Taksim, Beyoğlu, Çiçek Pasajı, Nişantaşı, Sultanahmet and Ortaköy, are concentrated in the paintings that are depicted together with side streets, pigeons and small neighborhoods. He is especially known for his works on Beyoğlu's motifs in the nostalgic environment. Having a unique expression of figures, Cimok transforms sections from daily life into a universal art image. Working as a lecturer at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, the artist continues his life and work in Istanbul.
