MUSTAFA PİLEVNELİ (1940 - )
He was born in Istanbul in 1940. He studied at the Department of Decorative Painting at Istanbul State School of Applied Fine Arts (now known as Marmara University). He won the DAD Art Scholarship in 1963 and went to Stuttgart, where he conducted research on decorative wall techniques. He worked on printing techniques at the Salzburg Summer Academy, where he was invited in 1970. He participated in exhibitions in Yugoslavia, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Germany, Japan, Netherlands, Belgium and America and the Oslo Biennale. His works, which focus on the watercolor technique, stem from his love of nature and humanity, and his passion for the environment. He develops an approach to illustration that multiplies the visuality of the Anatolian side in countless degrees. Artifacts related to alignment and spontaneity are transformed into an image/form worth a motif on the painting surface.
The most important thing that draws attention in Pilevneli's works is that humor, the source of human warmth, turns into an indispensable phenomenon of expression and surrounds the narrative, turning it into an absolute value or motif that directs the shaping. Blue cruises and coastal impressions, sea and Istanbul views are the main subjects of his paintings. In his large-scale paintings, he reflects the rare beauties hidden away from cave mouths and interiors from different angles. The warm and permeable effect of paint, the practice of grasping the view with a deep sense of perspective, and the colorist tendency are the main features that unite these paintings. He lives and works in Istanbul.
