ONE OF THE RARE GOLD MEDALS IN TURKISH MILITARY HISTORY...
In order to end the supremacy of England in the Mediterranean and to seize its colonies in India, France first wanted to invade Egypt, which was under Ottoman rule, and for this purpose, Napoleon Bonaparte sent troops to Egypt and entered Cairo in 1798. Following this incident, British Admiral Nelson caught the French fleet in Abukır and burned a significant part of it. France, which then started to fight with the Ottoman Empire, attacked Syria under the command of Napoleon, besieged the Akka Castle, but was defeated as a result of the defense of Cezzar Ahmed Pasha and returned to Egypt. After the Ottoman army was defeated in the wars in Egypt, the British sent troops to Alexandria and won the war against the French. With the agreement signed on August 30, 1801, the French agreed to withdraw from Egypt and thus Egypt rejoined the Ottoman territory. Sultan III. The Vaka-ı Mısriye Medals, awarded during the reign of III. Selim, were given to the notables and commanders of the Ottoman and mostly British states and to the soldiers who were successful in these wars. The example of the Vaka-ı Mısriye Medals offered for sale in the auction, which are made of gold or silver in different diameters and different weights, is gold and has a diameter of 42 mm and a weight of 20,5 grams. This medal, a rare and valuable artifact of Turkish military history, represents the courage and dedication of those who took part in the war and is a proof of the courage and sacrifice of those who fought on behalf of the homeland and the Sultan.
