NUR GÜREL (1980 -   )

Nur Gürel, born in İstanbul in 1980, graduated from the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Department of Painting where she studied with Devrim Erbil, Aydın Ayan and Yalçın Karayağız. The artist, who looks at the city of İstanbul from a macroscopic standpoint, is trying to reflect the current problems of a megalopolis whose historical past and identity are being erased by urban transformation projects. The works of Nur Gürel, who considers her hometown as her living room, look more like urban still life depictions rather than urban landscapes. Her collage works, which reflect the resemblance of big cities under the impact of urbanization and high rise buildings, are indications of the pitiful state of our urban centers. The artist who is currently studying for a master’s degree at the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, works and lives in İstanbul.
