Hasan Kavruk (1918-2007)
The painter, one of the pioneers of the lyrical abstractionist understanding in contemporary Turkish painting, is one of the most persistent performers and followers of the modern figurative movement. After graduating from Gazi Education Institute Painting Department, he worked as a painting teacher for a few years and won prizes in various painting competitions and was sent to Paris by the Ministry of National Education for painting education. He also attended the Fresco workshop at his Academy and specialized under the direction of Professor Duco De La Haille; Furthermore, he attended Jean Lombard workshop to learn the basics of abstract art. He had the opportunity to exhibit his works in various art galleries and in 1948-1949 his works were exhibited in the International and World-famous Salon D'Atomne. He is one of the founders of the Society of Artists in Turkey. He has opened many retrospective exhibitions, first in Ankara and one in Toulouse and second one in Paris. In addition, his works were selected for the Biennale held in Sao Paulo, Brazil in 1967 and became one of the artists representing Turkish painting.
Awards:
During his education at Gazi Education Institute between 1939 and 1943, he won the second and two first prizes in the painting contest organized by the General Secretariat of Ankara Community Center.
First prize in the field of painting at the Izmir Art Festival in 1963.
