CANAN TOLON (1955 - )
She was born in Istanbul in 1955. After studying philosophy and literature at the Istanbul French School, she studied interior architecture at the Middlesex Polytechnic School in London between 1975 and 1980. Tolon completed her master's degree in architecture at the University of California, Berkeley, between 1980-83. She was a lecturer at the University of California, Department of Architecture and Environmental Design for a while. She held his first exhibition in America in 1984. Subsequently, and opened various exhibitions at home and abroad.
Tolon adopts an approach that examines formations in her works based on wall installations and biological objects. Sometimes she painted both sides of the canvases he prepared, and sometimes she used the painting surface with natural and found objects such as glass, frames, iron, hair, grass, grass, straw and seeds, as well as some of his drawings, and stretched them or pasted them on chipboard. Her recent works are mostly canvas and paper-based. The struggle to neutralize each other, seen in the materials she chooses for her art themes, is tried to be reflected on paper and canvas. Concepts such as continuity, formation, destruction, degradation, and change processes are seen as the concepts on which her art is based. She continues his life and works in Türkiye and America.
