REFİK ANADOL (1985 - )
Refik Anadol was born in Istanbul in 1985. He graduated from Istanbul Bilgi University Visual Communication Design Department with the highest honor in photography and video. He then completed his master's degree in the Department of Media Arts Design at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He is currently a lecturer and visiting researcher at the same department at UCLA.
Anadol was creating sculptures that he created with architectural-oriented data, which he exhibited especially in public spaces in his early periods. Over time, he turned to giant projects that he preferred to display in public spaces by processing data from many different fields into artificial intelligence programs. Anadol, who has recently focused on the memory of machines, that is, the way machines perceive and think about data, collects visual, auditory, seismic, geographical, meteorological, cultural and all kinds of data that can come to mind in cooperation with giant institutions, including NASA and Google. Afterwards, it feeds the artificial intelligence program, which works with algorithms written specifically for the project, with this data, which it involuntarily creates while maintaining the life of the world and people. Thus, the artist creates data sculptures that show how the technology and machines we live in perceive and interpret data. Refik Anadol, who cooperates with international organizations such as Google, Microsoft, Nvidia, Intel, IBM and Samsung, lives and works in Los Angeles.
