Saim Özeren

Saim Özeren

SAİM ÖZEREN (1900-1960)

He was born in 1900 in Istanbul. While studying at the Painting Department of the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts in the 1930s, he worked in the workshops of Çallı and Tanpınar and won the admiration of his teachers. He was among the leading names of the first generation of painters of the Republican Era, and one of his works exhibited in Galatasaray exhibitions was taken by the Painting and Sculpture Museum, which was established in 1937. After the 1940s, his paintings were forgotten for a long time because he was offended by the art circles and retreated to his own corner. Concentrating on the landscape genre, Saim Özeren's works reveal a superior technical understanding, deep-rooted knowledge of colors and an appreciation line that goes beyond impressionism. The artist died in 1964 in Istanbul.
