VEYSEL GÜNAY (1948-)
Veysel Günay was born in 1948 in Trabzon. After completing his education in the Painting Department of Gazi Education Institute in 1969, Günay went to France for specialization studies in 1970 with a scholarship from the Ministry of National Education. Afterwards, the artist made paintings and murals in Paris École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts and Louvre Museum in France between 1970-1974. Günay returned to Turkey in 1974 and worked as an art teacher at Gazi Education Institute until 1983. He was appointed to Hacettepe University Faculty of Fine Arts Painting Department in 1983. After becoming an assistant professor in painting in 1986, Günay received the title of university associate professor in painting. The artist, who served as professor and department chair between 1995-1999, served as the Head of the Textile Design Department in 1999 as a faculty member at Beykent University, Faculty of Fine Arts, and then the Head of the Painting Department and the Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts.
Having opened twenty-nine solo exhibitions, Günay won nine awards in various competitions, including the DYO Painting Award and the State Painting and Sculpture Exhibition Award.
The artist defines his art as capturing the form and color relations that he believes to express himself in his environment and creating the universal light with those relations.
The artist is currently serving as the Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Istanbul Aydın University.
