IDIL ILKIN
İlkin is a graduate of Chelsea College of Art and Design in London with a Master of Fine Arts. In İlkin’s collages there is rythm and cyclicality with the organization of fragments that repeat like sounds. As part of her research İlkin explores the human body as a musical instrument and creates experimental compositions with her own voice. İdil İlkin’s large scale photo collages are mainly influenced by minimal music, calligraphy, marbling, rugs and tiles. She creates repetitive patterns as in traditional Islamic Arts
or in Minimalist Music. İdil İlkin’s compositions are characterized by the consumption habits, the life style imposed by mass media and economic cycles that dictate us to be a part of it. The on-going act of looking, observing, believing, obeying and imitating urges her to think of rhythm, repetition, echo and reflection. In her works the images are organized and defined on multiple planes allowing the compositions to be read in terms of both time and space. With digital interference the fluid anamorphic forms flow in and out of the visual field, resulting in a dynamic synthesis of painting, photography and print. İdil Ilkin currently lives and works in Istanbul.
