Edip Hakkı Köseoğlu (1904 – 1990)

After graduating from Numune Mektebi and Kadıköy Sultanisi in 1904, Turkish painter Edip Hakkı Köseoğlu entered Sanayi-i Nefise Mektebi (Academy of Fine Arts) and worked under İbrahim Çallı. After graduating from the Academy in 1927, he studied decoration and frescoes at Arts et Metiers in France, where he went to the state. Andre Lhote developed his art education in his workshop. He worked on wallpaper and fabric patterns in the Paul Dumas factory. When he returned home in 1932, he was appointed as a lecturer at the Painting Department of the Academy of Fine Arts. The artist, who participated in state exhibitions and some group exhibitions, did not organize a personal exhibition for a long time. In 1976, a large exhibition covering all periods was held with the initiative of the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts. In 1977 and 1979, two more exhibitions were held in Istanbul, including oil, gouache and watercolor paintings. His works were included in a group exhibition opened in Chicago in 1978. He joined the Independent Painters and Sculptors Union.

In the 5th State Painting and Sculpture Exhibition held in 1943, he won the first prize with his painting titled İshak Hoca, in addition to his five works. The artist's main works are located in the Istanbul and Ankara Painting and Sculpture Museums in the country, in the collections of the Security Fund, Akbank, Yapı ve Kredi Bankası, İş Bankası and Ankara State Library, and abroad in private collections in the USA, France, England and Sweden.
