Chintan Upadhyay (1972 - )

Chintan Upadhyay was born in Partapur, Rajasthan, India in 1972. He received his undergraduate and graduate degree in (1997) from Maharaja Sayajiao University of Baroda, Faculty of Fine Arts, India. He had his first exhibition in 1996, Mumbai Leela Kempinski Art Gallery. He was awarded the Charles Wallace Foundation Award for Residency in Bristol, UK in 2012.

The artist began as a painter, but now creates sculptures and installations of which he paints the surface. His most popular sculpture project is perhaps the Pet Shop project, which is an ongoing production of a “model baby” for every season. Baby fetish – He also run Sandarbh, a nonprofit organization set up for residencies, workshops, and programs, and dedicated to promoting the arts and raising awareness about contemporary artistic practices in rural areas of India.

It’s a radical experiment that brings artists from India and the world to a small village called Partapur, Rajasthan.They live and engage with the local community there through the means of art. Upadhyay has had many international exhibitions and his art is in many private collections. He lives and works out of Mumbai.
